2020 St. George’s Marine Expo Cancelled

The fifth annual St. George’s Marine Expo has been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

A spokesperson said, “The fifth annual St. George’s Marine Expo has been cancelled. Based on the current global pandemic, Covid-19, a decision was made to cancel the 2020 Marine Expo that was scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 26.

“The Marine Expo has operated the last four years with title sponsorship from Rubis Energy and has become one of the signature events in the Town of St. George’s.”

“We made the decision to cancel the Expo because we thought it would be in the best interest of public safety,” said BEDC MSME Director Ray Lambert. “While we were hopeful that we could still host the Expo this year, we knew that this pandemic could impact the event being held.”

The spokesperson said, “Right now, the country is focused on surviving this global pandemic. Consequently, the BEDC has reallocated most of its resources to provide support for businesses that will be impacted by Covid-19.

“Some of the businesses that would have participated in the Expo will be affected by this and we are hoping to be able to provide some relief with amended financial products and support. For more information on the available products for businesses please visit the BEDC website.”

Mr. Lambert said, “Although the Expo is being cancelled this year, we are looking forward to coming back bigger and better in 2021. Once we know that our country and community is safe, there will be a reason to celebrate and we will do just that when we host the next Marine Expo.”

The spokesperson said, “The Marine Expo 2021 will continue to showcase the many businesses, organizations and opportunities involved in Bermuda’s Maritime Industry.

“The BEDC looks forward to continuing the partnership with the dedicated team including representatives from BEDC, Bermuda Yacht Services, The St. George’s Foundation, and the Corporation of St. George.”

Mr. Lambert said, “The additional time for planning will give us the ability to reach more vendors and sponsors to ensure that we continue to attract thousands of people to St. George’s to celebrate Bermuda’s great Maritime history.”
