Dunkley: “We Trust A Full Update Will Be Given”

Full disclosure of hospitalizations at this time, when government expects this spike to diminish, plans to dispel vaccine hesitancy and the current availability of vaccines supplies are some of the updates the Government should provide, Shadow Minister of Health Michael Dunkley said today, adding that “many in our community feel the Government recently has fallen short in releasing the latest updates in a timely fashion.”

Mr. Dunkley said, “Over recent days Covid news has been depressing and grim to say the least, especially with 2 deaths announced on Sunday night. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.

“Sadly, many in our community feel the Government recently has fallen short in releasing the latest updates in a timely fashion.

“Over the weekend upon the release of triple digit positive cases on Saturday night, and rumors rampant about hospitalizations rising, it was imperative that government provided clarity on the current situation and an assurance that we are on the right track with the current approach.

“Assurance from the Government did not happen; late Sunday more grim news was released and today the CDC raised Bermuda’s level from Level 2 to Level 4 for Covid – very high.

“In short, all the progress we have made has simply vanished and we are being tested severely.

“Tonight, when the Government does speak to the people, we trust a full update will be given, including the following:

  • recent testing results and time frames they relate to
  • full disclosure of hospitalizations at this time
  • when government expects this “spike” to diminish
  • plans to dispel vaccine hesitancy as rumors are raising concerns about the vaccine and will make herd immunity more difficult to achieve
  • the current availability of vaccines supplies
  • next vaccine shipments numbers and arrival dates
  • any consideration of vaccine “incentives”
  • sternly dispel false information circulating in the community
  • an update on the adherence to Covid regulations and restrictions over the holiday weekend.
  • what is being done to assure the CDC and the US we have plans to get this drastic spike under control.”
