Potential Covid Exposure: Devonshire Preschool

The Ministry confirmed they are “aware of a potential Covid-19 exposure at Devonshire Preschool,” and said “the person confirmed with Covid-19 has been isolated” and “a full assessment will be completed and additional communication will be provided.”

This is the 5th such notice in recent days, following after similar notices were issued for Paget Primary School, Whitney Institute Middle School, Northlands Primary School, and Dellwood Middle School.

Earlier today, the Government confirmed 18 new positive Covid-19 cases — one imported, 15 classified as local transmission with known contact, and two under investigation – bringing the island’s current tally of active cases to 48.

A Government spokesperson said, “Ministry of Health’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit [ESU] is aware of potential COVID-19 exposure at Devonshire Preschool. The person confirmed with COVID-19 has been isolated. The ESU is contacting confirmed close contacts. These person[s] are being advised that they must quarantine [stay home from school and other activities] and get tested for COVID-19.

“A full assessment will be completed and additional communication will be provided, outlining further public health guidelines that must be followed, such as quarantine and testing.

“This evening the Minister of Education, the Hon. Diallo Rabain, JP, MP has restated his previous call for everyone who has children, family or friends associated with the school system to use caution and strictly adhere to the Government’s safety measures to contain this latest community outbreak and reduce the transmission of COVID-19.”

Minister Rabain added, “The vulnerable must be protected and that means we must all be considerate of how exposure to COVID affects students, schools, teachers, parents, and the larger community.  We must work together – wear your mask correctly; wash your hands regularly, and maintain physical distance.”

“We will update stakeholders and the community once we receive additional information from the Department of Health.”

“Any questions concerning COVID‐19 should be emailed to schoolsurv@gov.bm. All public health guidelines are listed at https://www.gov.bm/coronavirus.”
