The Ministry received 7,125 test results – spanning three days — and 689 were positive, so active cases have now increased to 1604, with 6 people in hospital.
A Government spokesperson said, “Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 7,125 test results, and 689 were positive for the coronavirus.
“These results are from testing done on:
- Tuesday: 204 positive out of 2372 results [8.6% positivity]
- Wednesday: 243 positive out of 2305 results [10.5% positivity]
- Thursday: 242 positive out of 2448 results [9.9% positivity]
“189 of the new cases are classified as imported with a history of travel in the previous 14 days.
“The additional 500 new cases are classified as either local transmission [58] or under investigation [442].
“Additionally, there are 196 recoveries and 0 deaths.
“There are 1604 active cases, of which:
- 1598 are under public health monitoring and
- 6 are in hospital with 0 in intensive care
“Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 7880 coronavirus cases, out of which 6166 have recovered, and sadly there have been 110 coronavirus-related deaths.
“The source of all active cases is as follows:
- 572 are Imported
- 192 are classified as local transmission
- 840 are Under Investigation
“The source of all confirmed cases is as follows:
- 1623 are Imported
- 5318 are classified as local transmission of which:
- 3353 are Local transmission with known contact/source and
- 1965 are Local transmission with an unknown contact/source
- 939 are Under Investigation
“As investigations proceed, transmission categories may change. For age distributions and overall transmission categories, please refer to https://www.gov.bm/coronavirus-Covid19-update. The seven-day average of our real-time reproduction number is 1.07.
“The Ministry of Health advises that there continue to be delays with Covid testing as the demand is relatively high and our resources are strained.”
Minister of Health, Kim Wilson said, “We are still experiencing delays with our Covid testing, and we are working quite hard to improve our testing system and processing times.
“The Perot Post Office location is running smoothly, with shorter lines and quicker processing, as a result of our Washington Mall testing facility. The new Washington Mall site is working well. The testing at Washington Mall is for outbound travellers only. As we announced last week, all outbound travellers [visitors and residents] who require an antigen test 24-hours before they depart from Bermuda will now get tested at this new location.
“Located on the western walkway above Washington Lane, Washington Mall, the site is open daily from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Anyone who requires a 24-hour outbound antigen test will be able to book a travel antigen test online at www.gov.bm to attend the Washington Mall testing site. And with the opening of the new Washington Mall site, the temporary airport antigen service, which was set up over the weekend, is closed.
“Please remember that we need the cooperation of everyone in the community to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. As basic as it may seem, public health guidance is the best defence against this virus.
“We continue to advocate vigilance, personal responsibility and compliance. The public should continue to wear a mask, wash their hands, keep physically distanced from others, not in their household, and add antigen tests to their pandemic toolbox.”
