The Cabinet will convene on Saturday morning [March 20] to “consider the current outbreak and to decide whether any further action is necessary to mitigate the current outbreak,” and there will be a release on Saturday afternoon with “the announcement of any decisions made by the Cabinet.”
This comes as the island has experienced a surge in confirmed Covid-19 cases with over 30 new cases in just the past three days; 6 new today, 18 new yesterday, with 7 new cases the day prior to that.
The cases are impacting schools, with the Government issuing advisories about potential Covid-19 exposure in six different schools; Purvis Primary, Devonshire Preschool, Paget Primary School, Whitney Institute Middle School, Northlands Primary School, and Dellwood Middle School over the past few days.
In releasing the test results tonight, the Government said, “Following the receipt of testing results from Friday’s testing, the Cabinet will convene tomorrow morning to consider the current outbreak and to decide whether any further action is necessary to mitigate the current outbreak to ensure that Bermuda’s vaccination programme can continue unabated. There will be a release on Saturday afternoon with further testing results and the announcement of any decisions made by the Cabinet.”
Earlier this week, Health Minister Kim Wilson had urged everyone to follow the guidelines to prevent transmission.
“With the recent surge of confirmed positive COVID cases on the island, we must do our part to reduce the risk of sustained community transmission that could overwhelm our healthcare system and halt our economic recovery,” the Minister said earlier this week.
“I strongly urge everyone to act responsibly and do what is right for our family and our community to avoid having the Government implement stricter measures.”
“Follow the guidelines and avoid parties and any gathering of more than 25 people in attendance – indeed, avoid smaller gatherings too, if the attendees are not part of your normal “bubble”. Continue to wear your mask, practice hand hygiene, and physically distance.
“Avoid the three ‘Cs’ – closed spaces with poor ventilation, crowded places with many people nearby, and close-contact settings such as close-range conversations – six feet must be maintained at all times, including greetings.”
