Bermuda College confirmed that a “student has tested positive for the coronavirus” and said that while classes concluded for the semester last week it “was decided, out of an abundance of caution, to close the campus.”
This comes as the Government confirmed 24 new cases today, and the island how having a new record high of 98 active cases.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda College is advising the public that a student has tested positive for the Coronavirus. While classes concluded for the semester last week, and final exams are being conducted remotely this week, it was decided, out of an abundance of caution, to close the campus on Tuesday, December 8, with the exception of the Testing & Assessment Centre, until a risk assessment has been completed.
“Based on College safety protocols and the reduced number of individuals on campus, it is believed potential exposure has been limited; however, a professional cleaning schedule is already underway at the College in support of Government guidelines.
“Due to the increased number of cases on the island, as of Thursday, December 17, College employees who can work from home will transition to working remotely to further mitigate the number of individuals on campus. BC employees can be reached by email or telephone during this time.
“The College will be closed for the Holiday season between December 24 and January 8.”
