The MarketPlace has extended their partnership with the Ministry of Health to offer pop-up Covid-19 testing at select stores across the island  through the month of July.

A spokesperson said, “The MarketPlace today announced an extension of its partnership with the Ministry of Health to offer pop-up Covid-19 testing at select stores across the island.

“We fully support the Government’s efforts in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and will continue testing at our stores through the month of July. Testing will take place in secure areas of parking lots on the following days and times:

  • Heron Bay MarketPlace: Wednesday, July 1 from 2pm to 7pm; Saturday, July 4 from 2pm to 6pm; and Friday, July 17 from 2pm to 7pm
  • Shelly Bay MarketPlace: Friday, July 3 from 3pm to 7pm; Saturday, July 11 from 2pm to 7pm; and Wednesday, July 15 from 3pm to 7pm
  • Somerset MarketPlace: Friday, July 10 from 3pm to 7pm; Saturday, July 18 from 2pm to 6pm; Wednesday, July 22 from 3pm to 7pm; and Wednesday, July 29 from 3pm to 7pm
  • Modern Mart: Wednesday, July 8 from 3pm to 7pm; Friday, July 24 from 12pm to 5pm; and Saturday, July 25 from 2pm to 6pm

Seth Stutzman, president of The MarketPlace group of companies, said: “We are united with the Government by the unique role we play given our physical presence in communities across the island and reach capabilities. Expanding the testing reach has been vital to combating the disease and our priority is to continue to provide a safe environment for our associates, customers and the communities that we serve.”

The Minister of Health Kim Wilson said: “The Ministry of Health is delighted to continue its partnership with The MarketPlace as part of our pop-up testing programme at convenient locations across the island. The Government is grateful for the civic responsibility shown by the MarketPlace in offering its various sites.

“Hundreds of people took advantage of this initiative throughout the month of June and we hope these numbers continue. Testing is the only true way to measure COVID-19 prevalence in our community and determine to what extent our measures are working; which they certainly seem to be so far, with Bermuda down to only two active cases.”

The company added, “In addition, our 5% discount days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays will be extended through July 29 and will return to Wednesday only from August 5. Daily 5% off shopping for recipients of financial assistance will continue through October 31.

Mr Stutzman added: “We recognise that the recovery from this health crisis is still a long way out. This is going to take time and it will not happen overnight and we’re here to support our valued customers and communities whenever possible. We are and will constantly evaluate our options to provide further assistance to our customers.”

“The MarketPlace remains committed to supporting our communities and offering low-price initiatives. These include:

“Value Bag – this initiative provides customers with staple grocery items for $29.99, that have a cost savings of $14.49. Items include apple juice, bread, canned evaporated milk, canned peas and carrots, flour, jam, pasta sauce, peanut butter, rice, spaghetti, sugar, tea bags, toilet tissue, and vienna sausages.

“Every Day Low Prices [EDLP] programme – this monthly initiative aims to give customers access to a range of 20-30 quality items deeply discounted over a one-month period. New items are available from the first of each month.

“The MarketPlace’s goal is to provide high quality goods at affordable prices with the continuous aim to reduce the cost of groceries in Bermuda for our hard-working customers.”
