MP Zane DeSilva was charged in Magistrates Court this morning [March 10] in connection with matters surrounding the dinner party at Blu last year.
Mr DeSilva, who previously served as a Cabinet Minister, was charged along with his daughter Zarah Harper and Angela Caldwell of the MEF restaurant group.
The first charge alleged that in July 2020 they gave a public officer at the Ministry of National Security, information which they did not believe to be true, knowing it to be likely that they would thereby cause a public officer to do something which the officer would not otherwise do; namely that they produced a letter stating that an event would be a charity fundraising dinner, in order to be granted an exemption to hold a large group gathering under the Public Health Covid-19 Emergency Regulations.
The second charge alleged they that provided a document, required for an accounting purpose, to the Ministry of National Security which may have been misleading, false or deceptive.
The defendants — who were not required to enter a plea as the case must be heard in Supreme Court — were granted bail in the amount of $5,000.
