Numbers Will Be ‘Staggering, Triple-Digit Likely’

The “numbers will be staggering over the next few days” and “it is likely on Monday that we’ll be reporting triple-digit cases for the first time,” Premier David Burt said.

This comes as the island currently has 294 active cases, which is the highest ever for Bermuda so far, with officials announcing 81 new cases on Saturday, which was around 24 hours after the last results were announced, and today’s results will cover a 48 hour time span.

There were over 230 new confirmed cases last week:

  • Sun, March 28: No test results publicly released
  • Sat, March 27: 81 new confirmed cases
  • Fri, March 26: 33 new confirmed cases
  • Thu, March 25: 34 new confirmed cases
  • Wed, March 24: 40 new confirmed cases
  • Tues, March 23: 10 new confirmed cases
  • Mon, March 22: 41 new confirmed cases

Speaking on the Shirley Dill radio show on the BBC this weekend, the Premier said, “All we have to do is we have to look to what took place in November, and we can look how quickly we went up and how quickly we went down, and the same thing will happen this time.

“If we do what is necessary, we’ll go up very quickly, and we’ll go down very quickly. But the numbers will be staggering over the next few days, it is likely on Monday that we’ll be reporting triple-digit cases for the first time, and they will look very staggering, but that’s because we’re casting a very wide net. And as I have explained, there are instances where this is very transmissible. So one person, if they are positive, is spreading it to a number of people far more than what we’d have seen in our previous outbreaks.”
