“There is no way that I or Bermuda can thank Dr Weldon enough for her contribution to our fight against the Coronavirus,” Premier David Burt said, adding she has gone “above and beyond.”
The Premier was responding to criticism on Twitter following the most recent Covid press conference, with some people taking umbrage about comments made in relation to Dr Carika Weldon’s service and the impact of her resignation.
Dr Weldon, the Government’s Science Advisor & MDL Laboratory Director, has resigned from the position, with her last day to be on January 31, 2022.
The Premier — who is currently abroad attending a conference — tweeted, “Good Evening, I haven’t seen the full press conference however, there is no way that I or Bermuda can thank Dr Weldon enough for her contribution to our fight against the Coronavirus. She has gone above and beyond, & as I said on Monday I’m sure her service to our island will not end on January 31.”
