Essential workers are being given a 20 percent discount on a luxury catamaran charter as a ‘thank you’ by Sail Bermuda for their work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
A spokesperson said, “Sail Bermuda, which charters the 47′ catamaran Wyuna, is run by husband and wife team Marilyn and Caleb Zuill – a firefighter with the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.”
“The work of an essential worker is close to our hearts,” said Mrs Zuill, the firm’s operations manager.
“We are thankful for the hard work that so many essential workers are doing right now during this pandemic and we know first-hand the sacrifice involved.
“To show our appreciation we are giving all essential workers both in Bermuda and overseas 20 percent off any charter until the end of 2020 on the Wyuna.”
The spokesperson said, “Sail Bermuda also recently ran an Instagram campaign asking people to nominate a local essential worker that they felt needed a break once the Covid-19 outbreak was over. The prize was a free three-hour private charter on Wyuna.”
Mrs Zuill said, “I asked people to send in the name of the essential worker, where they worked and a short story of why they believe they deserve this break on the water.
“We received 16 nominees and the winner was Dr. Jasmin Caines, a doctor at KEMH who has been working long hours to faithfully serve her community.
“She is also a mother of a toddler and as a mother myself I admire her for her dedication to serve other people while also having to take care of her child and maybe also having to sacrifice spending time with her child because of the long hours spent working.”
The spokesperson said, “Those nominated included Dr. Amne – a doctor working on the frontline at testing centres; Jess Arneil, a pharmacist; Janice DeSilva of infection control, BHB; Darren Hunnicutt, a nurse at KEMH; Lindsay Manderson a district nurse at KEMH; Thayja Simons, Ziare Cox, Roseann Baker-Burchall, Ms. Woodley, Ms. Manders, Mercedes Rutherford and Ms. Brangman all from the Matilda Smith Rest Home; Maria Goater an environmental service supervisor at KEMH, Omejae Goater, assisting at KEMH; Nicola MacDougall a nurse at KEMH; and Cameron Harris, a tractor trailer driver delivering groceries and medical supplies.
