Travel: 72 Hrs Or Less, Use Pre-Departure Test

[Updated] As of December 13th, local residents travelling abroad for 72 hours or less can use their pre-departure Covid test as an arrival test.

Speaking at last night’s [Dec 9] test results, Minister Wilson said, “As of December 14th, anyone travelling abroad for 72 hours or less can use their pre-departure test obtained in Bermuda, as an arrival test upon return.

“Anyone travelling to Bermuda should visit https://www.gov.bm/applying-bermuda-travel-authorisation to learn about our entry requirements. All travellers to Bermuda must follow the requirements set out in the Quarantine [Covid-19] [No. 3] Order 2020.”

The Minister had previously advised this change would be made saying that the adjustment to enable residents who travel abroad for less than 72 hours to use their pre-departure test obtained in Bermuda, as their pre-arrival test upon their return will facilitate “quick trips overseas.”

Update Dec 12, 6.30pm: The Government has now issued new information, they now say the changes come into effect on December 13th and apply to “vaccinated residents.” We updated the introduction line above with the new date.

A spokesperson said, “A number of amendments to the Quarantine Order will commence on Monday, 13 December 2021, not Tuesday, 14 December, including the ability of vaccinated residents to use their outbound test as their pre-arrival test if off-island for less than three days.”

Update 8pm: The actual document has now been posted online. It states “No requirement for pre-arrival COVID-19 testing for vaccinated residents off island for less than three days Paragraphs 6 and 6AA requiring pre-arrival COVID-19 testing shall not apply to a person who travels outside Bermuda and returns to Bermuda within three days of his departure from Bermuda, provided that he— is ordinarily resident in Bermuda; provides proof of having obtained a COVID-19 vaccination at least 14 days prior to the date of his departure from Bermuda.”
