4 Deaths, 163 Positive, 196 Active, 8 In Hospital

The Ministry received 4376 test results — spanning 7 days — and 163 were positive, so there are now 196 known active cases, of which 8 people are in hospital, and the Ministry confirmed the sad news the island has recorded four more coronavirus-related deaths.

The 196 active cases are those that the Ministry is aware of, and it is generally accepted the actual number of active cases is likely higher.

“I am sad to report that Bermuda has had another four Coronavirus-related deaths,” said Minister of Health Kim Wilson. “I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends who recently lost a loved one in the circumstances related to this coronavirus. You are in our thoughts and prayers.”

A Government spokesperson said, “Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 4376 test results, and 163 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 4%.

“These results are from testing done on:

  • Tuesday: 37 positive out of 912 results [4.1% positivity]
  • Wednesday: 20 positive out of 566 results [3.5% positivity]
  • Thursday: 13 positive out of 316 results [4.1% positivity]
  • Friday: 12 positive out of 523 results [2.3% positivity]
  • Saturday: 20 positive out of 517 results [3.9% positivity]
  • Sunday: 24 positive out of 849 results [2.8% positivity]
  • Monday: 38 positive out of 691 results [5.4% positivity]

“69 of the new cases are classified as imported with a history of travel in the previous 14 days.

“The additional 94 new cases are classified as either local transmission [72] or under investigation [22].

“Additionally, there were 226 recoveries.

“There are 196 active cases, of which:

  • 188 are under public health monitoring; and
  • 8 are in hospital, with 0 in intensive care.

“Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 17356 coronavirus cases, out of which 17012 have recovered, and sadly there have been 148 coronavirus-related deaths.

“The source of all active cases is as follows:

  • 79 are Imported
  • 77 are classified as local transmission
  • 40 are Under Investigation

“The source of all confirmed cases is as follows:

  • 3680 are Imported
  • 13402 are classified as local transmission of which:
    • 5768 are Local transmission with known contact/source and
    • 7634 are Local transmission with an unknown contact/source
  • 274 are Under Investigation

Minister Wilson said. “Please remember that living safely with Covid means we must continue to follow public health guidance. We are not out of the woods yet with this pandemic. To avoid getting infected, wear a face mask and wash and sanitise your hands regularly. Maintain a 6ft physical distance from others.

“Importantly, ensure there is proper ventilation when you are indoors. Fresh air ventilation is essential for any building or internal space and protects all of us from infections such as Covid. Increase fresh air ventilation wherever possible when indoors.”
