With vaccine administration in Bermuda having started on January 11th, 2021, Bernews is tracking the statistics, with the statistics being released weekly. This page only charts vaccinations, for testing statistics please view the testing statistic page.. Residents can register for the vaccine via the Government’s website at vaccine.resqwest.com/web
The vaccines we use requires at least two doses — and as of 2022 a third ‘booster’ dose is also being given — so this can cause some confusion, so the statistics should be read carefully. There is the total amount of vaccines given overall [including first/second/third doses] and then people who have had first dose only, both the first and second doses and then a booster. This page also contains data on the vaccination status of hospitalisations and deaths starting from January 2021, when vaccinations began in Bermuda.

Living safely with Covid requires us to look out for our safety and to care about the safety of others, especially our vulnerable persons.
There are far too many positive cases in our community, and we have increased hospitalisations. It also saddens me that there are coronavirus related deaths every week. Please practice healthy behaviours and consider the safety of yourself and others.
As a reminder, the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine is now available for persons who had their third dose more than five months ago and are immunosuppressing conditions, older than 65 or residents of residential care homes.

Large group sizes will increase from 100 to 200 people, and table sizes for restaurants, bars and clubs are no longer limited to a maximum of 10 people.
Effective March 7th, quarantine provisions will change for fully vaccinated persons. Currently, people who are not symptomatic and are close contacts and are fully vaccinated or boostered over six months are required to quarantine for seven days and test out on day 7.
Those people will not be required to quarantine as a close contract. They will be required to get tested as soon as possible, and if tested negative, take daily antigen tests at home. They must also follow strict public health guidance until Day 7, wear a mask around others, avoid indoor public places, don’t attend large gatherings or high-risk settings, follow public health guidance, monitor symptoms and avoid large gatherings and high-risk settings until Day 14. This simply means there is now no difference for quarantine provisions for boostered or fully vaccinated persons.
The Ministry of Health is also reminding people that if you want a first and second dose COVID-19 vaccine free of charge at Pier 6, the last day you can come is Thursday, March 10th.
We can still give first doses at Pier 6 after March 10th, but you won’t be able to get a second dose free at Pier 6, as there is not enough time before they close on March 31st.

A full course of a vaccine means a Covid-19 vaccine administered according to the manufacturer’s recommendation or the recommendation of a stringent regulatory body recognised by the Ministry of Health, with at least 14 days from the date of the final dose of vaccination. For most vaccines, this means 14 days after the second dose, however for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine a full course is one dose.”

If you have COVID-19 and you are looking after yourself at home, here are a few tips from medical experts.
Have a friend, family member or neighbour check how you are doing daily. Arrange a regular call or talk through a doorway [not face to face].
If you have a high temperature, get lots of rest, drink plenty of fluids [water is best] to avoid dehydration – drink enough, so your urine is light yellow and clear, take paracetamol or ibuprofen if you feel uncomfortable.
If you have a cough, it’s best to avoid lying on your back. Lie on your side or sit upright instead. To help ease a cough, try having a teaspoon of honey. But do not give honey to babies under 12 months. If this does not help, you could contact a pharmacist for advice about cough treatments, but do not go to the pharmacy, stay home.
Be sure to contact your doctor for guidance, and if you do not have a doctor, the hospital has set up a phone number 239-2009 to assist with information on the proper treatment for your symptoms.
I encourage everyone to please do everything you can to protect you and your family from the virus.
Everyone in our community has an individual responsibility to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. We are all in this together, and we must all work together to ensure our community is safe. The Delta variant is spreading fast, causing more infections in our community. I urge those who have not been vaccinated to do so now. The COVID-19 vaccines work to prevent severe illness, which may be fatal.
September 18, 2021, 86,676 Vaccinations | Click for full details
The Minister said: We have completed week 36 of vaccinations. Since January 11, Bermuda has administered a total of 86,676 vaccinations.

To date, 67.8% of the population has been vaccinated [1 dose], and 66.2% of the population has been immunised [2 doses].
As we all know, the Delta variant is easily transmissible and widespread throughout our community. Everything we do should be focused on avoiding infection.
Vaccinations are our best defense against the further spread of the virus, so if you still have not decided to get vaccinated, please do your research and speak to your doctor.
The sooner you get vaccinated, the better you can fight the virus if exposed to it. Equally important, you can protect others in the community, which is particularly important for those who cannot be vaccinated, such as our children who we want to get back in the classroom as quickly as possible.
We are expecting a new supply of Pfizer vaccines to arrive on island tomorrow evening, and I encourage anyone who wants to get vaccinated to register their interest as soon as possible on gov.bm/vaccines.

- 4. Over 50 years old.

To date, 67.4% of the population has been vaccinated [1 dose], and 66.0% of the population has been immunised [2 doses].
Minister Wilson added, “Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 vaccine remains the best protection against the coronavirus as they protect against severe disease and death. Despite this surge, the number of coronavirus infections among vaccinated residents remains relatively low.
“I encourage anyone who wants to get vaccinated to do so quickly. There are 264 first doses left on the island until our next shipment. We will be extending the gap between 1st and 2nd doses of Pfizer Covid vaccine from 3 weeks to 6 weeks. This will help us deliver more first vaccine doses to Bermudians whilst we await our next batch of vaccines. There is no reduction in immunity to Covid-19 as a result of this longer gap.
“Anyone getting their first dose next week will have their second dose scheduled for when the next batch of vaccines arrives. Anyone who has already had their first dose must keep your appointment for your second dose.”
The vaccine clinic at the King Edward Memorial Hospital is open for appointments and walk-ins, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 pm – 7 pm, and Saturdays from 8 am – 4 pm.
As always, to decrease the odds of getting the coronavirus, avoid the three “Cs”: closed spaces, crowded places and close contact settings.

“It saddens me that that Bermuda has recorded another death of someone who was Covid positive,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson.
“I extend my deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and friends. I am sorry for your loss, and my prayers are with you.
“The pandemic is far from over, and as we now find ourselves living with COVID, we all must do everything we can to reduce the transmission of this virus at all levels.”
“If you have cold, flu or coronavirus symptoms, stay home and call your doctor or the COVID helpline 444-2498 for advice about getting tested.
“The vaccine against COVID-19 is one of the single most important measures to keep our community safe. The vaccine prevents approximately 80% of symptomatic infections and prevents approximately 96% of hospitalisations and deaths. Vaccines also appear to reduce transmission. With the outbreak we are experiencing now, 62% of the active cases are not fully vaccinated, and the transmission is spreading through households and workplaces and in social situations.”
The Ministry is advising parents and guardians that if an unimmunized child travels and returns home, and his/her parents are immunised, then he/she should:
Comply with the on-island testing requirements on days 4, 10 and 14. Not attend school or day care until receiving a negative day 10 test result, in accordance with a medium risk setting of the Safe Return to Work after Travel Guidance. Conduct remote learning.
A day 8 test will be acceptable until the school year’s start only for families with existing travel plans. Call the Covid-19 Information Hotline, 444-2498, to make arrangements for a Day 8 test.
There will be a pop-up vaccine clinic at Lindo’s in Devonshire on Tuesday, September 7 10 am – 2pm, and Thursday, September 16 3 – 7pm.

The Minister said: We have completed 30 weeks of vaccinations. Since January 11, Bermuda has administered a total of 83,543 vaccinations.
Of the 83,543 vaccinations given as of August 7:
- 52% are women and,

To date, 65.7% of the population has been vaccinated [1 dose], and 64.4% of the population has been immunised [2 doses].
We have five active confirmed clusters. This is concerning. We cannot afford another outbreak and its impact on our health and safety, our economy, and not to mention the stress it would put on our entire healthcare system.
As I have repeatedly stressed, the vaccine against COVID-19 is one of the single most important measures to keep our community safe.
Vaccines prevent approximately 80% of symptomatic infections, and vaccines prevent approximately 96% of hospitalisations and deaths. Vaccines also appear to reduce transmission.
As I said earlier, of Bermuda’s 34 active imported cases, 68% are fully vaccinated, and 32% are not vaccinated or eligible for vaccination.
Of our 58 local transmission cases or cases under investigation with no known connection to travel the situation is reversed, 33% are fully vaccinated, and 69% are not vaccinated or eligible for vaccination. In other words, for local transmission, not surprisingly, the majority of persons who are positive are not vaccinated.

I would like to remind everyone that vaccination is recognised globally as one of the single most important measures that individuals can take to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community.
Anyone who is trying to make up their mind about getting vaccinated should seek information that is supported by science and rely on guidance from reliable sources.
If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, you can walk in to the King Edward Memorial Hospital vaccination centre. Next week the vaccination centre will be open on:
- Tuesday August 3rd, from 4 – 7 pm,
- Thursday, August 5th, from 4 – 7 pm, and on

Please remember, each of us must do our part to stop the spread of the coronavirus. It is essential that we all follow Public Health guidelines. Wear a mask, practice good hand hygiene, maintain physical distance and download the WeHealth Bermuda app.
Do the research, talk with a reliable source and make an informed decision about getting the COVID-19 vaccine. There is a wealth of information about the vaccines online at gov.bm.

The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine is available at the KEMH vaccination centre. Walk-ins are available between 4 and 7pm Monday to Friday, or 8am to noon on Saturday. The vaccination centre is closed on Sundays.
I recognise that a lot of the reluctance around getting vaccinated comes from misinformation. However, the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks at this time.
I encourage anyone who is trying to make up their mind about getting vaccinated, to seek information that is supported by science and rely on guidance from reliable sources.
Now is the definitely the time to get vaccinated while we have enough vaccine doses available. The sooner you get vaccinated, the sooner you are protected, the sooner our community is protected, and the sooner we can get back to normal.
The longer you wait to be vaccinated, the higher your risk of catching COVID-19, and the longer we will have restrictions.

We have confirmation from Government House that 4,680 more Pfizer vaccine doses are arriving next week from the UK, which is excellent!
This will allow us to continue to offer vaccinations to as many people as possible. The more people who are immunised, the safer our community becomes, and I am pleased to announce that we can now end most public health restrictions due to our significant progress in controlling the virus as reflected in our updated country status.

Covid-19 cases are down in Bermuda, thanks in part to our aggressive testing and vaccine programme. As well, the United States Centres for Disease Control today upgraded Bermuda’s Covid-19 risk rating.
Bermuda is now classed as Level 2, moderate, up from Level 4, very high in a travel advisory on the organisation’s website. However, we must continue to be vigilant to avoid any additional outbreaks.
Our last first dose vaccines were administered today, and the response was good. I encourage anyone who wants to be vaccinated to please register your interest at https://vaccine.resqwest.com/web/. We will order more vaccines if we have the need.

Of the 68,104 vaccinations administered for the period we are reporting on, which ends May 22nd:
- 52% are women, and,
- 48% are men.
77.6% of all residents over the age of 65 years have had at least one vaccination with 72.4% being fully immunized. Last week, I reported 79.9% of all residents over the ages of 65 have had at least one vaccination, however, the corrected number is 76.36%.
To date, 55.7% of the population has been vaccinated [with 1 dose], and 50.5% of the population has been immunized [with 2 doses].
Again, we are making significant progress vaccinating our residents.
I encourage everyone who wishes to be vaccinated to do so as soon as possible.
You can get vaccinated at the Bermuda College, which is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am until 1:00 pm for walk-ins.
You can also make an appointment to get vaccinated at Bermuda College between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. However, the Bermuda College is not open for vaccinations on the weekend.
The Bermuda Hospitals Board vaccine centre is open daily between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm for anyone with an appointment. This is especially convenient for people who are working during the day and who need an appointment in the evening or on the weekend. They will be accepting walk-ins this Saturday and Sunday.
This week the Close To Home COVID-19 mobile vaccination programme will be at the following locations:
- Thursday, May 27, at the Sandy’s Secondary Middle School from 4 pm until 7 pm, and,
- Saturday, May 29, at the National Sports Centre from 10 am until 2 pm.
At the National Sports Centre on Saturday, vaccine certificates will be provided to those who do not have internet access. Also, 200 free meals will be given away from the caterer Kenny’s Kitchen thanks to the generous donation of Red Laser Ltd. There will also be other participants that will be joining Bermuda’s objective for community immunity and will be giving out gift cards and vouchers to those that get vaccinated at the National Sports Centre this Saturday, May 29th. I would like to thank Auto Solutions who will be donating free car wash vouches and Frontline Foundation who will be donating gift cards from various businesses in the community to those that get vaccinated.
We are reaching a milestone Bermuda, as there are 2 weeks left to assure yourselves of two [2] doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
Next week the mobile vaccination locations are:
- Shelly Bay Marketplace on June 1
- TN Tatem Middle School on June 3
- And Victor Scott Primary School on June 6.
The Close to Home mobile vaccination neighbourhood sites are for people who have not yet registered for the COVID-19 vaccine, do not have access to the internet, and prefer to register in person or have additional questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.
There will be doctors on site to answer any questions you have, and you don’t need an appointment. You can just show up and roll up your sleeve.
We recommend the Close to Home mobile vaccination programme as an ideal opportunity to learn more for those people who want to hear about the COVID-19 vaccine from a trusted source.
If you need a free ride to any of the vaccinations sites, call 533-5903 between 10.00 am and 1.30 pm. Mini-buses are available to take you there and bring you back home.
Since the mobile vaccination programme began on April 27, a total of 1729 vaccines have been given as of May 24. About 78% of injections were administered to people receiving their first dose.
Thanks very much to the Bermuda Health Council and the Royal Bermuda Regiment who have been assisting the Ministry of Health with this programme. And thanks to all of our healthcare-workers and stakeholders who have been assisting with our mobile vaccinations.
If you need assistance getting vaccinated or simply have questions, please contact vaccine@gov.bm, or call the hotline 444-2498 and select Option #2. The Vaccine Call Centre is available from 8 am – 4 pm, Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 9 am – 3 pm. The Call Centre is closed on Sundays.
As I have mentioned previously, Bermuda’s current supplies of Pfizer BioNTech and AstraZeneca vaccines expire on June 30. The Pfizer vaccine requires three weeks between doses. This means the last, first dose can be given on June 8, which is fast approaching. To be assured you can receive 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine please either register for an appointment at gov.bm or attend the walk-in facility at the Bermuda College or attend one of the Close to Home locations before or 8th June.
Yesterday was a monumental day for Bermuda. To ensure we limit vaccine wastage, 9,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine were delivered to Trinidad and Tobago on a private fight.
Our neighbors in the south have had some challenges with retaining sufficient supplies of vaccines and I am proud of how the Bermuda Government and the community joined together to support Trinidad and Tobago as we believe it was a win/win for both countries.
The AstraZeneca vaccine can be administered up to 12 weeks after the first dose. Therefore the first dose can be given until June 30, with the second dose administered from a new batch of vaccines received from COVAX.
There is currently enough COVID-19 vaccines available in Bermuda for anyone who wants to be vaccinated. Once the existing batches of vaccines have expired, more will be sourced in the coming months. For those who wish to get the Pfizer vaccine, now is the time. There are no guarantees of Bermuda getting more doses in the immediate future.
Those parents who are interested in having their children vaccinated can register their appropriately aged children on gov.bm so the Ministry of Health can gauge interest in being vaccinated.
As I mentioned last week, the Food & Drug Administration and Health Canada have both approved the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 years old.
However, as the Memorandum of Understanding between the Bermuda Government and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in the UK specifies the vaccine can be used only on people aged 16 years and over.
Bermuda and other territories are facing the same challenges and continue to wait for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency [MHRA] to approve use of the Pfizer Vaccine for this age group. This is an issue we are still working on resolving before we can begin to administer the vaccine to the lower age group of 12 – 15 year olds.
On a final note, tomorrow at 8 pm, we have a panel of experts who will explain how the COVID-19 testing works and they will share the research about giving the COVID-19 vaccine to 12–15-year-olds.
On the panel will be Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ayo Oyinloye, Dr. Carika Weldon, Dr. Ramon Arscott, Epidemiologist Ms. Dy-Juan DeRosa, and Pediatrician Dr. Sylvanus Nawab. They will debunk myths and answer questions from the public so I encourage you to tune in with your questions.
This informative programme will air live on the Bermuda Government’s Facebook page, CITV, and YouTube, at 8 pm, Wednesday May 26.

Of the 65,497 vaccinations administered for the period we are reporting on, which ends May 15th;

To date, 53.9% of the population has been vaccinated [with 1 dose], and 47.7% of the population has been immunised [with 2 doses].
We’ve made remarkable progress, since our vaccination campaign began at the beginning of the year. The vaccine is extremely effective at preventing severe illness and death, which we saw demonstrated through the challenging outbreak that caused the Stay at Home regulations to be put in place.
I encourage everyone who wishes to be vaccinated to do so as soon as possible.
For recent travellers, the Ministry of Health guidance is being updated to support vaccination after your day 4 negative COVID-19 test result. You no longer have to wait until after day 14.
Our mobile vaccination sites are also convenient as we visit various locations around the island, three times per week.
Later this week, the mobile vaccination programme will be at the following locations:
- Thursday, May 20, at the Southampton Princess from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm.
- Saturday, May 23, TCD in Hamilton from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm.
This week’s mobile vaccination programme will be for individuals who wish to get their first dose, as well as for those who need to receive their second vaccine shot, following their first dose three weeks ago. The vaccine is most effective after you receive the second dose, so don’t forget to go back to Southampton Princess or TCD to get that all important second shot.
Next week our mobile vaccination programme will be at the following locations:
- Tuesday, May 25, the Open Door Christian Fellowship in St. David’s from 10 am until 2 pm
- Thursday, May 27, at the Sandy’s Secondary Middle School from 4 pm until 7 pm, and
- Saturday, May 29, at the National Sports Centre from 10 am until 2 pm.

There will be doctors on site to answer any questions you have, and you don’t need an appointment. You can just show up and roll up your sleeve.
We recommend the Close to Home mobile programme as an ideal opportunity to learn more for those people who want to hear about the COVID-19 vaccine from a trusted source.
And please don’t forget that there is a free mini-bus service available to take people from their homes to the mobile vaccination sites and back to their homes afterwards. Call 533-5903 between 10.00 am and 1.30 pm if you need a ride to one of the mobile vaccination sites.
Anyone who feels they need a home visit for the COVID-19 vaccine, please contact vaccine@gov.bm, or call the hotline 444-2498 and select Option #2, and the team will arrange a visit in the coming weeks.
Since the mobile vaccination programme began on April 27, a total of 1,012 vaccines have been given as of May 16. About 90% of injections were administered to people receiving their first dose.
Parents who are interested in having their children vaccinated are encouraged to register their appropriately aged children on gov.bm so the Ministry of Health can gauge interest in being vaccinated.
The Food & Drug Administration and Health Canada have both approved the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 years old. Parents.

Of the 62,161 vaccinations administered for the period we are reporting on, which ends May 8;

Good progress continues to be made in vaccinating our population and, especially, our most vulnerable.
79% of all residents over the age of 65 years have had at least one vaccination, with 67% being fully immunized.
To date, 53% of the population has been vaccinated [with 1 dose], and 44% of the population has been immunized [with 2 doses].
We are making excellent progress. However, time is running out.
Bermuda’s current supplies of Pfizer BioNTech and AstraZeneca vaccines expire on June 30. The Pfizer vaccine requires three weeks between doses. This means we can give the last first dose on June 8. The AstraZeneca vaccine can be given up to 12 weeks after the first dose. Therefore, the first doses of AstraZeneca will be administered until June 30, with the second dose administered from a new batch of vaccines received from COVAX. We currently have enough of the COVID-19 vaccines available in Bermuda for anyone who wishes to be vaccinated. I strongly encourage those that wish to get vaccinated to do so.
There are people in our community who have said that they probably will or that they do plan to get vaccinated but have not done so – now is the time.
Anyone wishing to get vaccinated can go to Bermuda College, which is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am until 1:00 pm for walk-ins.
Additionally, appointments at the College are available between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
Also, the Bermuda Hospitals Board vaccine centre is open daily between 8:00 am – 8:00 pm for anyone with an appointment.

As part of the Ministry’s outreach, we are very pleased to report that yesterday a team from the Bermuda College vaccination centre vaccinated 10 homebound people with the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in the west of the island – from Southampton to Paget. This was done in partnership with St John’s Ambulance who kindly donated the use of their emergency response car – thank you!
The team plans to go out again this Saturday morning to vaccinate those who have requested home visits in the east of the island from St David’s to Devonshire.
Anyone who feels they need a home visit for the COVID-19 vaccine, please contact vaccine@gov.bm, and the team will arrange a visit in the coming weeks.
As many people will know, the Food & Drug Administration and Health Canada have both approved the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 years old. Parents are encouraged to register their appropriately aged children on gov.bm so the Ministry of Health can appropriately gauge interest in being vaccinated.
As the Memorandum of Understanding between the Bermuda Government and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office specifies the vaccine can be used on youth aged 16 to 18, we are working on a resolution of this issue before we can begin to administer the vaccine on the lower age group.
Also, there have been questions regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine being administered to persons under 30 years of age. The Chief Medical Officer is available for technical questions on this, but the Bermuda Advisory Committee on Immunisations has approved the use of this vaccine on that younger age group, taking into consideration the benefits, incidence of adverse effects and the availability of alternatives.
May 1, 2021, 58,193 Vaccinations | Click for full details
The Minister said: We have completed the sixteenth full week of vaccinations. From January 11 to May 1, 2021, Bermuda has administered a total of 58,193 vaccinations – a figure that rises to 60,207 [which is 52% vaccinated] if you include vaccinations administered from Sunday to Wednesday of this week as well! – all of which is excellent news.
Of the 58,193 vaccinations administered for the period we are reporting on, which ends May 1;
- 52% are women, and,
- 48% are men.
Significant progress has been made in vaccinating our population and, especially, our most vulnerable.
74% of all residents over the age of 65 years have had at least one vaccination with 64% being fully immunised.
To date, 51% of the population has been vaccinated [with 1 dose], and 39% of the population has been immunised [with 2 doses].
The Bermuda College vaccination centre will continue to be open for walk-ins from 9 am to 1 pm daily. For those with appointments, the vaccination hotline is doing phone follow up calls to confirm those appointments as well as sending emails.
For those persons who have registered and are waiting for their first appointment, you will receive the information by email. In both cases, please read your confirmation emails carefully to ensure that you get the correct information regarding the time and location of your vaccine appointment.
Additionally, to increase the avenues available to members of the public who wish to protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated, the “Close to Home” Vaccination Initiative will continue in the following locations, from 10 am until 2 pm:
- Saturday, 8 May at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire
- Tuesday, 11 May at the Shelly Bay Marketplace
- Thursday, 13 May at the TN Tatem Middle School
These sites are for people who have not yet registered for the COVID-19 vaccine, do not have access to the internet, and prefer to register in person or have additional questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Our current supplies of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines expire at the end of June. For Pfizer, which requires a three week period between doses, we anticipate the last first dose will be administered on June 8. For AstraZeneca, the period between doses can be as great as 12 weeks, so we will continue to administer that vaccine until June 30, and administer the second dose when we receive our next COVAX delivery.
I can assure you, we have the capacity to vaccinate anyone who wants to get vaccinated and plenty of supply to reach community protection.

The Minister said: We have completed the fifteenth full week of vaccinations. From January 11 to April 24, 2021, Bermuda has administered a total of 55,319 vaccinations – a figure that rises to 55,904 if you include vaccinations administered on Sunday and Monday as well! –which is excellent news.
Of the 55,319 vaccinations administered for the period we are reporting on, which ends April 24;

- 47% are men.
Significant progress has been made in vaccinating our population and, especially, our most vulnerable.

To date, 50% of the total population has been vaccinated [with 1 dose], and 37% of the population has been immunised [with 2 doses].
One of the Government’s primary objectives is to increase the avenues available to members of the public who wish to protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated. With this objective in mind, we are pleased to announce the “Close to Home” Vaccination Initiative has been established, with vaccinations taking place at Penno’s Wharf today.
The outreach programme to increase access to Covid-19 vaccines will continue with a ride through, drive-through and walk through venue at Southampton Princess, Thursday April 29, and Sunday, May 2, at TCD, from 10 am – 2 pm. The drive-in venue is specifically for persons who have not yet registered for the COVID-19 vaccine, do not have access to the internet, and prefer to register in person or have additional questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.
As a reminder, the Bermuda College vaccination centre will continue to be open for walk-ins from 9 am to 1 pm daily. Those with appointments at the College vaccination centre are asked to attend the Old Wing of KEMH for their vaccination. The vaccination hotline will be doing phone follow up calls to confirm those appointments.
Getting vaccinated is something we can do for ourselves, our family and our community. Many have taken the step to protect themselves and their loved ones. Others are doing their research, listening to the facts, talking with their doctors and taking the time to decide for themselves and their families.
For people who have decided not to get the vaccine, please remember that you have a role to play by knowing your status. Please make sure you get tested regularly to be sure that you are not carrying the virus. And you should continue to wear your mask and follow all public health guidelines.
At this time, immunisation is our best hope to get our lives back to normal, but all of us, immunised or not, have a role to play.
April 17, 2021, 50,992 Vaccinations | Click for full details
The Minister said: We have completed the fourteenth full week of vaccinations. From January 11 to April 17, 2021, Bermuda has administered a total of 50,992 vaccinations – a figure that rises to 52,337 if you include vaccinations administered on Sunday and Monday as well! – all of which is very good news.
Of the 50,992 vaccinations administered for the period we are reporting on, which ends April 17th;
- 53% are women, and
- 47% are men.
Significant progress has been made in vaccinating our population and, especially, our most vulnerable.
70% of all residents over the age of 65 years have had at least one vaccination with 61% being fully immunised.
Bermuda’s goal of “herd immunity” will be achieved when 70% of the population has been immunised. To date, 46% of the population has been vaccinated (with 1 dose), and 34% of the population has been immunised (with 2 doses).
People have asked for an explanation of ‘herd or community immunity’ and why it is important. Community immunity happens when enough of persons in our population have protection against an infection that it stops being able to spread – the so-called ‘dead end’ effect. For COVID-19, scientists estimate the threshold for community immunity is 65% – 70% of the population.
In Bermuda, this means something closer to 80% – 85% of the population that is eligible to be vaccinated because, as you know, the vaccines are not yet approved for youth under the age of 16 years. So, once you remove young people from the calculation, we need a much higher rate of vaccination among those that are left – namely, the people who are 16 years and over.
Yes, this is an ambitious target and that is why the Ministry has focused on, and worked hard to achieve, a high rate of vaccination among our most vulnerable group: people over the age of 65 years. 70% of this age group have had at least one vaccination, and that is excellent news.
In a recent Omnibus survey consisted of telephone interviews with a representative sample of 400 Bermuda residents conducted between March 8th and March 17th, 2021, 8% indicated they will definitely not get the COVID-19 vaccine. This is a decrease when compared with December 2020, when 28% indicated they would not get the vaccine.

Of the 45,761 vaccinations administered for the period we are reporting on, which ends April 10th;
- 54% are women, and,
- 46% are men.
Bermuda’s goal of “herd immunity” will be achieved when 70% of the population [64,054] has been immunised. To date, 40% of the population has been vaccinated [with 1 dose], and 31% of the population has been immunised [with 2 doses].
To push forward and get close to this goal more quickly, the Ministry will be ramping up the vaccination programme at Bermuda College – as the Bermuda Hospitals Board has done already – with the aim of immunizing 62% of Bermuda’s population by Bermuda Day – 28 May 2021.
